Coaching

Coach Siobhan Murphy uses the Great Question! game as part of her work with CEO round tables. She uses the game to introduce a way of communicating which is different than simply giving advice. The CEOs love it and have asked her back several times. Best of all, she has become an affiliate, and sold several games to CEOs who want to use it in their companies. Siobhan gets the 20% affiliate referral fee for every game she sells.

“The Great Question!TM Game is a marvelous way to introduce clients to the power of coaching. The materials are top notch, the questions are delightful (frequent comments like "What a great question!" are heard throughout the room), and the process is FUN! I'm looking forward to facilitating many powerful sessions."

Leadership Challenges

Carollyne Conlinn recently used the game in a coaching session with 20 senior managers. These senior executives had big challenges as a result of a merger between two companies. There were differences between the field and head office, between experts from different geographical and cultural backgrounds, and then there were the engineers and everyone else!

The executives first completed a SWOT analysis and as a result uncovered some of the very serious challenges they were facing. Then Carollyne introduced the Great Question! Game. After the first round of the game the players were willing to ask different questions than they had been asking previously. In the next round, they took on their big challenges and coached each other on finding solutions. Within 30 minutes, they came up with some very creative and positive solutions for their top four big challenges.

The Great Question! Game teaches participants to focus on problems and challenges in ways that utilize the “coach approach” to asking questions and allowing space for a different level of answer or solution.

High School Students

A group of teenagers can be very intimidating. They are demanding, judgemental, frequently bored and … they know how to ask Great Questions!

Carollyne Conlinn introduced The Great Question game to a class of high school students to see how a group of teenagers would react to the game. They were surprisingly interested in learning how to communicate better with their parents, siblings, peers and their bosses in after school jobs.

In the first round the students used the questions and situations in the game. They were engaged in the learning process.

In the second round they used situations they had come up with before Carollyne arrived. The students paired up, then using the GQ Pocket Guide they coached each other through some of their real life challenges.

Here is their teacher's comment:

"As a teacher of adolescents, I am always on the look out for classroom activities that can be both fun and educational and so I was thrilled when I discovered how much The Great Question Game engaged my students both intellectually and emotionally. Not only did they “think outside the box” while playing the game, but they also gained insights into personal situations in their lives beyond the classroom. The Great Question Game would be an invaluable addition to any high school teacher’s 'toolbox'. I recommend it absolutely."

ALL of the student comments were favourable. Here are a few of them (names withheld for privacy):

"The aspect of the game that I will use in my life is asking others questions to help them solve their problems."  - Student

"Some of the questions were pretty straight forward and some required you to really think deeply. The language was showing no dis-respect or judgement." -Student

"It was a very entertaining game. I had a lot of fun."  -Student

"This game is really useful because it makes us thinks and gives us better communication skills

"I loved the GAME!!" - Student

"I think I'll use the questioning method instead of just putting the answer in someone else mouth. I know how to be calm and see how many possible ways there are to answer or come to an 'excel' point.” –Student

"I think this was a very interesting experience. I've never tryed anything like this before. At times it got hard because some of the questions didn't make sense. This activity did help with finding different ways of communicating, in different situations. It also made us think, which Ms. Foster really likes. I liked the way they made this game because it was a lot funner to play with. I could also relate to some of the situations that were on the cards, and orange paper." -Student
